F.U.E. or follicular unit extraction is the innovative procedure for doing hair transplantation. F.U.E was first described by Masumi Inaba in Japan in 1988 using of a 1-mm needle for extracting follicular units and was first described in the medical journal by William R. Rassman and Robert M. Bernstein in their publication “Follicular Unit Extraction: Minimally Invasive Surgery for Hair Transplantation. This technique aiming to avoid long strip scar form standard technique- strip harvesting follicular unit transplantation.
Now, F.U.E was classified as manual F.U.E, power F.U.E and robotic F.U.E.. To maximize result out of F.U.E hair transplantation, physician must select the appropriate candidate for F.U.E, have good hair trimming, adequate anesthesia, set up the right position for doing the procedure, perform adequate tumescent anesthesia, using the correct instrument, gentle extraction, have proper grafts insertion and finally effective follow up visit. Robotic hair transplantation in the innovation of F.U.E. using robotic arm and image processing technology to advance sharp punch and dull for grafts harvesting. In the near future robotic F.U.E machine will assist surgeon more in the other process of hair transplantation such as recipient site creation and grafts insertion.
