Pycnogenol for Anti-Aging
Pycnogenol® is a USP standardized patent-protected extract derived from the bark of the French maritime pine tree, which grows only in the Landes de Gascogne in France. Originally developed as a pharmaceutical product in France in the 1960ies and still used as an OTC pharmaceutical in 11 countries, today Pycnogenol® is available in more than 100 countries as a health food ingredient. Pycnogenol® has been studied for more than 50 years including more than 130 clinical studies involving more than 10,000 patients. Pycnogenol® has been shown in clinical studies to be a superior antioxidant, a natural anti-inflammatory, significantly improve the function of blood vessels promoting full body circulation and reduction of multiple cardiovascular risk factors, improve blood sugar control, and support the health of the skin and connective tissue. The wide range of clinically proven health benefits support the key corner stones to maintaining health and slowing down the aging process making it an ideal extract for use in anti-aging health food products. This presentation will provide a brief overview of the research related to common concerns of aging such as cardiovascular health, cognitive function, joint health and menopause.
Natural nutraceutical and its role in health and beauty
The role of nutraceuticals in maximizing the health and appearance of the skin continues to be verified in the research. This presentation will focus on the research-based health benefits of a USP standardized plant extract, Pycnogenol® (French maritime pine bark extract; Horphag Research, Switzerland) as well as a finished nutraceutical product, Evelle® (Pharma Nord, Denmark) in which Pycnogenol® is the key active ingredient. Pycnogenol® has been researched extensively for promoting healthy skin and reducing the signs of aging while also demonstrating the potential to reduce skin cancer risk. Evelle® is a unique formula with natural plant extracts, antioxidant vitamins and minerals. All ingredients are individually supported by research for their safety and health benefits including European EFSA approved nutrients. Additionally, the Evelle® formula itself has been the subject of a double-blind placebo controlled clinical study on promoting the health and function of the skin. In addition to Pycnogenol®, this presentation will introduce the key actives in the formulation as well as review the results of this study verifying the efficacy and safety of the Evelle® formulation.
