Aging population is increasing; however, they are far from healthy. Although we are surrounded by so many advanced medical technologies that enable patients to survive their sickness that once would have been fatal, our health care is in a state of crisis. The disease-based approach to medicine is not only expensive; it is ineffective and causes unnecessary suffering. There are increasing numbers of patients with chronic illness and by economic point of view; the costs of health care have become so increasing unaffordable that medical treatments are out of reach to many people.
The major problem of healthcare system everywhere is they are trying to give all sick people treatments, usually by the method of prescribed medicines. Now we see how many people with chronic illness are taking these drugs. As the results, healthcare system has turned into business and the aim of healthcare is no longer about health promotion but is about convincing doctors to prescribe more drugs. Today’s evidence based medicine is defined and financed by pharmaceutical companies. They help doctors releasing the guidelines for the management of chronic illness. But if these guidelines are good, why we do not see lower rates of chronic diseases. Instead, we have more people who are getting sick from drug complication.
To solve the health care crisis, we need to think outside the box. If we want to cut our health care costs, people have to know how to stay healthy. This is not an impossible dream since scientific knowledge has proven again and again that optimal healthy lifestyle is the key for longevity and good health.
These new idea of health promotion has led to a novel specialty called anti-aging medicine. It is a discipline founded on the application of advanced scientific and medical technologies for the early detection, prevention, treatment, and reversal of age-related dysfunction, disorders, and diseases. It is a preventive healthcare model that can prolong the healthy lifespan in humans. Despites many doctors still believe that there is little we can do to intervene in the process of aging, new scientific data have shown otherwise.
Around the world, people are seeking medical guidance for ways to stay healthy, active, and vital well into their older years. As a result, the principles of the anti-aging medicine are gaining rapid and widespread acceptance as a framework for lifelong habits for healthy living.
The mission of A4M Thailand is to contribute to the anti-aging society an extensive range of academic education at the highest international levels, to facilitate the learning process, both cognitive and skills, to all anti-aging practitioners, to create opportunities for innovative partnership with anti-aging business, and to protect and preserve our environment.
